Library Scope and Sequence Standard:LUS 03 Library Use Skills Library Organization
Description: Students will have a prior knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system based on the previous visit by the LMSS professional. Students will be divided into groups and given a “Dewey Decimal Search Sheet”. Each group will be assigned a section of the Non-fiction section of the library. Each student is to select 4 book titles form that section of the library and record the title, author and spine label call number on their work sheet. Once each member of the group has completed their Dewey Sheet groups will move to the computer lab, log on to a computer and begin an image search using Google images. Once the images of the titles on their Dewey Sheet have been found students will save the images of their book titles into their coursework folders. Students will then move to the direction sheet, “Steps to Creating An Infomercial in Animoto”. Here students will continue to work in a group following the steps to create an infomercial. Once all infomercials have been created students will vote for their favorite infomercial which will be featured on the library media blog and shown to the younger grades as an introduction to the Dewey Decimal system, of organizing non-fiction books.
