Mapping the Library Scavenger Hunt

Library Scope and Sequence Standard: LA 03 Literacy Awareness Study Skills
Description: Students will have a basic knowledge of mapping skills based on previous lessons taught. (Class instruction, video streaming presentations, previous activities with mapping skills) Students will be placed in groups and be given a laminated map of the classroom, clipboard and vis a vis pens. Students will also be given a list of items to locate in the classroom and label on their laminated map. Extra points will be given for key items students find that are not on the list given to them by the teacher. Students will be given a set number of minutes to move about the class room and locate the items on the teacher generated list. Student will mark on their map the correct corresponding number from the teacher list of the 3 dimensional objects to flat perspective on the laminated map. The lesson will end with students coming together as a whole group and contributing the small group answers to a larger whole class map. Extra credits items will be a focus at the point since these are the items that night be new to the small group’s previous work. A follow-up field trip to the Salem Public Library will be taken using public transportation. A discussion will follow the field trip discussing similarities/differences of the two libraries.
